Design and concept of the new container based workshops canteen

​

The Uusix workshops used to have a canteen where all workers could get a free lunch. But the old canteen was in a very bad shape and it had no working concept to serve everyone in a quick and organised way.

As well it was very unpleasant to eat there in a very cold and dull interior.

 

It was decided to change this and I had the pleasure to be fully responsible for concept, design and realisation.

 

The real challenge was to earn the respect and to find the attentive ear of our internal construction department and their leaders and workers who on top of it spoke not a single word english. So this project served as well as my daily finnish language cold water pool. The final quality of the new canteen shows that we actually step by step overcame our differences and formed in the end a really successful team.

This project was for many people at Uusix workshops a " yes we can" experience and thus as well extremely successful in terms of rehabilitation work. I consider this the most useful project I have ever worked on.
