Future fire fighting

2006

Approach:

Lifestyle sells better than safety. Why not combine it?

This product was the completely new step to combine a high-pressure fog sprinkler systems with an interior design product. Only 7% of German households have a smoke detector. A smoke detector reduces the risk of death in a home fire by 82% and costs only 3 Euros. In Europe 2600 people die and 60000 are injured by home fire every year. I was thinking that it was kind of tragic that people died in a fire while the water was actually right next to them in every room in the heating systems. In close exchange with plumbers and firefighters it turned out that it indeed might be possible to use the existing heating tube system for water supply in emergency cases.

I designed the lamp in a very architectural, futuristic and uncommon look. As a technology carrier I wanted it to be an eye catcher and versatile enough to use different shades on it.

As it is very common in university projects, they are not always technically completely developed. But what is in my eyes the duty of a student project is to bravely push the borders and to question and break with existing rules.
